Saddlery display at Melton Carnegie Museum

Making and fitting saddles is a highly skilled craft.  Special types of saddles are made for racing, hunting and jumping.  Melton Mowbray and most market towns across the country had saddlery shops when horses provided the main method of transport.  Walsall in the West Midlands has a long history of producing quality leather goods including saddles.
